Understanding Satan's Tactics

In my last article; Understanding Satan's Kingdom, I discussed how Satan's kingdom is setup and operates. We also learned what principalities, powers, high places and strongholds are. In our next study, we are going to understand satan's tactics and the devices he uses to deceive.

2Co 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

It is just plain common sense... to face an opponent and win a battle, you MUST understand how the enemy works. You MUST know how to defeat him and how to defend yourself from his tactics. Failing to know your enemy may lead to a certain defeat. We are talking about a very sly invisible enemy here. We just cannot "hope" him away!

The word "devices" in the Greek means; a perception, that is, purpose, or (by implication) the intellect, disposition, itself: - device, mind, thought..... The devices (purpose) of the devil is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).

Satan and his kingdom's mission is to destroy everything about God he can. And since he already has sinners, his real mission is to target saints of God. So, with that in mind, we can see why we have to understand his purpose and also understand the tactics, methods and tools he has at his disposal to defeat people.

Below, I am just going basically list some scriptures of ways demons attack people. It would be good for you to really remember these scriptures.

Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Job 1:6-12 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. (7) And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. (8) And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? (9) Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? (10) Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. (11) But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. (12) And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Mar 4:13-15 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? (14) The sower soweth the word. (15) And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Mar 8:31-33 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. (32) And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. (33) But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

Joh 8:4-6 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. (5) Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? (6) This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

Zec 3:1-4 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. (2) And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? (3) Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. (4) And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

1Th 2:18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

Luk 22:31-32 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: (32) But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Joh 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

Joh 6:70-71 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? (71) He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

2Co 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: (4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

As we can see from the scriptures above, the devil has many ways of effecting people’s lives. Some of these tactics are hard to detect in people sometimes, while some may be obvious.

I didn't include obvious things in the list because of space, but we cannot forget things like demon possession, some sicknesses, oppression, depression, addictions and even murder. Satan was actually responsible for the death of Job's children and the destruction of his oldest son's home.

What we need to point out though, is that even though Satan wreaks havoc on a global world, he is not afraid to try and devour Christian believers who are weak in their faith. Satan, watches us on a continual basis and if he can find a weakness in us, he WILL TRY to exploit that and cause us to fall. (More on this later)

However, as long as we are vigilant and sober with our faith; and we resist the devil and draw closer to God... he will flee!!! As long as we live an overcoming life, we DO NOT have to be afraid to engage in spiritual warfare to help other people find God and to obtain good things from God!

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. (Act 10:44-48)
