Spiritual Warfare Introduction

2 Corth 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Often times you may hear or see some visuals of two enemies clashing in a rugged battle. Most often these battles have the overtone of a fight between Good and Evil. And although this may be true most of the time in the spirit realm, you may be surprised to know that some spiritual battles are easy victories if you just know what to do. There will be hard fought spiritual conflicts in some spiritual wars; but, with a word from God and His actions on a situation, victory can come quickly... it just depends on what is required in each battle.

This article is the first in a series of Spiritual Warfare aimed at helping people deal with spiritual matters concerning the Kingdom of God, satan's kingdom, the world, people and the kingdom of self. There is so much to this subject that I will not be able to cover every aspect. But, will key on things that really matter in this dangerous time we live in.

Simply put, spiritual warfare is an aggressive push for victory over any obstacle, enemy or circumstance; whether spiritual, material or carnal! Spiritual warfare is something that each church and individual must do to obtain things from God. These "spiritual battles" can come in many forms and will require different ways to get victory; there is no set formula to fight spiritual warfare.

Spiritual warfare often includes a struggle in the spirit world for such things as; binding and casting out devils, getting an answer or direction from God, conquering a prince over a church, city, state or country. Having God open doors for the preaching of the gospel, obtain promises, gifts or callings. Spiritual warfare will also conquer things in your life that is hindering you. There are so many things to list here, but I won't.

Another thing you should know. There is not a devil around every tree and some things do not require spiritual warfare such as; basic human disciplines, some decision making and exercising your will in some matters. So, you have to know when spiritual warfare is required.

Paul said in his epistles, FLEE fornication and FLEE youthful lust. Some temptations don't even require spiritual warfare; but a person just needs to get away from certain things before they become a problem. Now, if a person struggles and falls constantly from any issue, it could very well mean that a stronghold is in place; then you may have to go into spiritual warfare mode.

In working with people that do not know God, we have to understand, that just talking to them won't always yield results. There are a lot of factors involved that will require some spiritual warfare. People may hear what you say, but unless the "spiritual blinders" are removed off their eyes, they won't see the real need to be saved. And that is because the "god of this world" has them held captive in sin, traditions and spiritual blindness. And this "god of the world" controls people and his name is Satan.

2Co 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: (4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The church exists today to represent the Lord on the earth. It's purpose is to conquer and win souls for the Kingdom of God. It has been given the power to deal with principalities and powers.

Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

When Jesus died on Calvary, he conquered the devil by openly defeating his principalities and powers. And the only way the church can be victorious is to have the power of God in their midst. It isn't that the devil was destroyed, but now, people and the church can have power over the devil if they are saved and living right.

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

In the above scripture, people often view the words "gates of hell shall not prevail" as meaning that the devil cannot overcome us; and that the church can just "hold the fort" and prevail. And even though in a broad sense it can be applied; however, most people miss what is actually being said.

The real meaning of that verse should be viewed as a militant, aggressive church (or individual) that goes forth conquering. The church should never be just holding the fort! The "gates of hell shall not prevail" actually means that death and the devil's principalities can't stop a moving, militant church. The devil (and his kingdom) isn't the moving part of that verse; but a stationary GATE! However, if we don't pursue or move forward and conquer, then death and the devil wins by default... because they are already sitting there like a stationary gate, and they don't have to do anything else. They already have what you want!!!

The truth be told, spiritual warfare can be a dangerous thing if a saint or church doesn't understand spiritual matters. There is so much to know about the "spirit realm" and anyone who attempts to bind devils or deal with issues without proper knowledge can find themselves in spiritual trouble (more on that later).

As a true apostolic believer who has been baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost, you have been given a powerful insight into the spirit realm. But, a born again experience doesn't always equate to using wisdom in dealing with deep spiritual matters. There is still some learning to be done.

Even, though we do not have to fear the devil, we still must respect his ability to bind and deceive people. Even the great apostle Paul was hindered by the devil. Paul even said, we are not to be ignorant of the devil's devices.

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Act 2:37-39)
